Ukraine's Zelenskyy suggests truce until meeting with Putin can be arranged

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a temporary ceasefire with Russia until a direct meeting with President Vladimir Putin can be arranged, as recent peace talks in Istanbul made only modest progress.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday proposed a ceasefire with Russia to remain in place until a meeting with President Vladimir Putin can be arranged.

“At this stage, I believe our partners will support a proposal to offer the Russians a ceasefire until the leaders meet,” Zelenskyy said during a briefing in Kyiv.

The June 2 peace talks in Istanbul yielded limited progress, aside from an exchange of proposals and a planned large-scale prisoner swap, which Zelenskyy said is scheduled for this weekend.
