Plane crashes into house in Germany, killing 2

AP News

A small plane crashed into the terrace of a residential building near Mönchengladbach, western Germany, on Saturday, killing two people, police said.

The crash occurred around midday in Korschenbroich, close to the Dutch border. The plane struck the terrace and sparked a fire, causing heavy damage to the house.

One of the victims was the 71-year-old pilot, a woman, who had taken off from Alkersleben near Erfurt earlier that morning. She was heading to Mönchengladbach airport, less than 4 kilometers from the crash site, but reported technical problems before the accident.

Authorities are still working to identify the second victim. Of the three residents registered at the building, two were not home during the crash and later reported their safety to police. Investigations continue.
