Japan has pledged over $1 billion in aid to Bangladesh for economic reforms, infrastructure, and education, as interim leader Muhammad Yunus visits Tokyo to deepen bilateral ties.

Japan will provide $1.063 billion in support to Bangladesh for budget aid, railway improvements, and education, Dhaka announced Friday during interim leader Muhammad Yunus' visit to Tokyo aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The package includes a $418 million development policy loan to support economic reforms and climate resilience, $641 million for railway upgrades, and $4.2 million in education grants for Bangladeshi students.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met with Nobel Peace Prize winner Yunus, who became interim head of Bangladesh last August following student-led protests that led former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to flee to India.
