National Public Radio and three Colorado stations have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, claiming the president’s order to cut federal funding for public broadcasters is unconstitutional and retaliatory.

National Public Radio (NPR) and three Colorado public radio stations have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over an executive order cutting federal funding for public broadcasting, NPR announced Tuesday.

The order, which blocks the use of Congressionally approved funds for NPR and PBS, violates the First Amendment, according to the lawsuit.

“This Executive Order is clearly intended to punish NPR for content the President opposes,” said NPR CEO Katherine Maher. “It’s a retaliatory act of viewpoint-based discrimination.”

Aspen Public Radio, Colorado Public Radio, and KSUT Public Radio are also named as plaintiffs. The White House has not yet commented on the case.
