German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that the war in Ukraine is unlikely to end soon due to Russia’s unwillingness to engage in negotiations.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in the city of Turku, Merz stated: “Wars usually end when one or both sides face economic or military exhaustion. But in this war, we are clearly still far from that stage.”
The chancellor added that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine may continue for a longer period, and that it is necessary to be prepared for such a scenario.
