A car drove into crowds of Liverpool fans celebrating the club’s Premier League title in the city centre on Monday evening, injuring dozens including 4 children. A 53-year-old man believed to be the driver was arrested at the scene.

The UK ambulance service reported treating 20 people for minor injuries and took 27 to hospital, with two suffering serious injuries.

Merseyside Police confirmed the incident happened just after Liverpool’s open-top bus parade passed through Water Street, where thousands had gathered. Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and believe it was isolated and not terror-related.

Videos circulating online showed the car speeding into fans, causing panic and some people being dragged by the vehicle before it stopped. Emergency services quickly responded, and some fans tried to reach the driver.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the event “appalling,” offering his thoughts to those injured or affected and praising emergency workers for their swift response.
