EU gives Shein one month to fix violations or face fines

The European Union has warned fast-fashion giant Shein to comply with consumer protection laws or face possible fines, intensifying scrutiny of the online retailer’s business practices.

The EU on Monday urged Shein to address ongoing violations of consumer protection rules, giving the company one month to respond to official concerns. If Shein fails to take corrective measures, national authorities may impose fines based on the company’s EU turnover.

This follows earlier warnings from the European Commission regarding unsafe products on Shein and fellow e-commerce platform Temu. Shein could also face additional regulation under the EU’s Digital Services Act, and a proposed €2 handling fee on low-value parcels adds further pressure to its EU operations.
