Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized China’s dedication to “true multilateralism” during his arrival in Jakarta for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing economic and political ties with Southeast Asia’s largest economy, state-run Xinhua News reported on Saturday.
Li’s trip marks another step in China’s effort to strengthen regional alliances in the wake of U.S. tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump.
At a business event attended by Li, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored the importance of Jakarta-Beijing relations for regional peace and economic progress. He acknowledged China’s contributions to industrial and technological development in Indonesia and praised the country’s opposition to imperialism and colonialism, emphasizing its support for the developing world.
Following his Jakarta visit, Premier Li will head to Malaysia to participate in the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, Xinhua reported.
