The fourth and final phase of Lebanon’s municipal elections began in the southern governorates, continuing the country’s first local voting process in nearly a decade amid ongoing security challenges.
Lebanon is holding its first local elections in nearly ten years, with the previous polls dating back to 2016 before being postponed multiple times due to political instability and security concerns. This election round follows recent airstrikes in the region, drawing concern from Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
Earlier phases of the elections took place on May 4 in Mount Lebanon, May 11 in North Lebanon and Akkar, and May 18 in Beirut and Bekaa, as reported by the Lebanese Interior Ministry.
Lebanese officials consider the municipal elections an important move toward strengthening the Lebanese state.
