U.S. security personnel shot an individual early Thursday morning outside the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
A CIA spokesperson confirmed security staff "engaged a person" outside the main gates, adding the individual was in custody.
While a CIA spokesperson did not confirm whether the gunfire struck the suspect or disclose any other details, they acknowledged the “security incident” that law enforcement responded to outside the agency’s main compound.
In a statement posted on X, the CIA said its main gate was temporarily closed and advised employees to use alternate routes.
The shooting occurred just hours after two staffers at the Israeli Embassy were fatally shot by a lone gunman in downtown Washington on Wednesday night.
Authorities have not indicated any connection between the two incidents.
