German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has said Donald Trump did not intentionally betray Europe, but rather overestimated his power and misjudged his role during talks with Vladimir Putin.
In a recent interview with Deutschlandfunk radio, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius stated that U.S. President Donald Trump did not betray Europe during his dealings with Russia. Instead, Pistorius believes Trump misjudged the situation and overestimated his influence during negotiations with Vladimir Putin.
The minister commented that Trump’s early statements ruling out NATO membership for Ukraine and acknowledging Russian territorial claims could be seen as a strategic misstep. “Such positions may not provide a strong foundation for peace talks or a ceasefire,” he noted.
When asked for clarification, Pistorius emphasized that although the outcome may have weakened Europe’s position, it should not be viewed as a deliberate betrayal. “He simply misjudged the situation,” Pistorius concluded.
