The announcement was made after tensions eased following diplomatic efforts, including the intervention of U.S. President Donald Trump, which led to a ceasefire agreement on May 11.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 11 military personnel lost their lives and 78 were injured during the conflict, while 40 civilians, including women and children, also died. The ISPR identified the fallen soldiers from the Pakistan Army and Air Force, noting their service and sacrifice in defense of the country.
The military stated that Pakistan’s response, named Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, was carried out with precision and resolve under the banner of Marka-i-Haq. The statement described the operation as a demonstration of the country's commitment to safeguarding its territorial integrity.
“Their noble sacrifice is a symbol of courage, devotion, and patriotism, remembered by the entire nation,” the ISPR noted, expressing prayers for the recovery of those injured.
The Pakistani government reiterated that the country remains committed to peace but will respond decisively to any future threats. In recognition of the national unity and military effort, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that Friday, May 16, 2025, will be observed as a day of gratitude and tribute to the armed forces.
