Albanians headed to the polls to vote in parliamentary elections, with Prime Minister Edi Rama seeking a historic fourth term amid debates over EU integration, economic challenges.

Polling stations in Albania opened at 7 a.m. on Sunday as voters participated in parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Edi Rama, head of the Socialist Party since 2013, is vying for a fourth term in office. His campaign focused on promises to secure Albania's EU membership by 2030, though critics doubt this timeline due to the significant reforms required.

Rama faces opposition from Sali Berisha of the Democratic Party, a long-time rival. Despite scandals involving both leaders, Rama remains the frontrunner, buoyed by economic growth and his international standing.

However, frustration among young voters is evident, with many expressing dissatisfaction over stagnant political leadership and stark income inequality. While some voters are seeking change, others see emigration to EU countries as their only path to a better future.

Results of the election are expected on Monday.
