U.S. President Donald Trump called for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy saying Kyiv is ready to comply immediately.
U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday called for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, warning that violations could lead to additional sanctions from the U.S. and its partners.
In a post on social media, Trump stated: “If the ceasefire is not respected, the U.S. and its partners will impose further sanctions.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his nightly video address, said he told Trump in a phone call that Kyiv is ready for a ceasefire “starting this minute.” He described the ceasefire proposal, originally introduced by Washington in March, as a potential “real indicator” of peace efforts.
Zelenskyy also urged Russia to show its commitment by accepting the ceasefire and halting hostilities unconditionally.
