The International Carpet Festival kicked off near the iconic Gosha Gala Gates in Icherisheher (Old City), aiming to promote the global legacy and future of Azerbaijani carpet weaving.
The event is organized by the Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” and "Azerkhalcha" OJSC, with support from the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan and the Export and Investment Promotion Agency – AZPROMO.
The Festival seeks to spotlight the rich tradition and innovation within Azerbaijani carpet art, while also drawing on the knowledge and experience of international carpet weaving professionals.
Participants from across the globe—including Türkiye, Pakistan, Tatarstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran—have gathered in Baku, joining Azerbaijani designers, researchers, and manufacturers for exhibitions, master classes, and networking.
This year’s Festival holds particular significance as it coincides with two major anniversaries: the 25th anniversary of Icherisheher’s inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the 15th anniversary of Azerbaijani carpet weaving’s inscription on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Throughout the festival, visitors will enjoy exclusive exhibitions, interactive workshops, live concerts, and educational programs for children—highlighting both the historical depth and future prospects of this ancient art form.
