Mexico's Health Ministry confirmed the country's first human case of myiasis caused by screwworm, a parasitic infection, the government reported on Friday. The case was detected in a 77-year-old woman from Acacoyagua, a municipality in the southern state of Chiapas.

The woman is currently in stable condition and receiving antibiotic treatment, according to health authorities. Myiasis occurs when fly larvae infest open wounds, feeding on living tissue, and it can lead to severe infections if untreated.

Health officials are monitoring the situation closely, and additional measures are being taken to prevent further cases in the region. This case marks the first confirmed instance of screwworm myiasis in humans in Mexico.
