U.S. Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism on Friday about the possibility of ending the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. His comments came during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome, their second meeting in just 24 hours, following discussions in Washington.
Vance stated that he intended to brief Meloni on recent developments in the peace talks. "We believe there have been some notable updates, even within the past day", he said, while cautioning that he would not pre-empt the negotiations. "There’s reason to hope that this brutal war might finally come to an end".
Earlier the same day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that President Donald Trump may abandon efforts to mediate a peace deal unless credible progress is observed soon.
