A drone strike hit a bakery in Ukraine's Sumy city early Friday, killing one person. The bakery was preparing traditional Easter cakes as Christian communities marked Good Friday. Officials condemned the attack as targeting civilians and culture.
A drone strike in the early hours of Friday hit a bakery in the northern Ukrainian city of Sumy, resulting in the death of one person, according to Ukrainian officials. The bakery was reportedly preparing traditional Easter cakes, known as paska, at the time of the incident.
Images released by Ukraine's emergency services showed trays of dust-covered Easter cakes and visible damage to the building, including shattered windows. Authorities identified the victim as a local businessman who had come to the bakery around 5 a.m. to pick up his order.
The strike occurred as Christian communities in Ukraine, including Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant believers, were observing Good Friday and preparing for Easter celebrations.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry representative Andrii Sybiha condemned the incident, describing it as an attack on civilian life and cultural traditions.
This event follows a separate missile strike on Sumy the previous Sunday, which officials say resulted in 35 fatalities, making it one of the deadliest attacks in Ukraine this year.
