European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement to pause reciprocal tariffs, highlighting the importance of stability for trade and supply chains.
In a statement shared on X, von der Leyen emphasized, "Clear, predictable conditions are essential for trade and supply chains to function." She also reiterated her stance that tariffs are detrimental to both businesses and consumers, stating, "Tariffs are taxes that only hurt businesses and consumers. That’s why I’ve consistently advocated for a zero-for-zero tariff agreement between the European Union and the United States."
The move by Trump to pause tariffs comes amid ongoing trade negotiations between the two economic giants, and von der Leyen’s comments reflect the EU’s desire for a more predictable and cooperative trade environment.
