Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasised on Thursday that cooperation between China and the EU outweighs competition, stating there are “all conditions” to enhance ties.
During his meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Beijing, Wang reaffirmed China's support for European integration and strategic autonomy.
Marking the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations, Wang urged both sides to resolve differences, strengthen cooperation, and build new opportunities. His remarks come amid U.S. tariffs on both rivals and allies, including the EU, and Washington's calls for increased European defense spending.
Barrot, in response, expressed France’s opposition to trade wars and support for free trade, rejecting decoupling and protectionism.
During his two-day visit, which includes a stop in Shanghai to meet Chinese business leaders, he stressed the growing importance of France-China ties in maintaining global stability.
