Colombia has confirmed the release of 29 soldiers kidnapped by civilians under coercion from a FARC dissident faction.
Colombian authorities have confirmed the release of 29 armed forces members who were kidnapped by civilians.
Colombia’s Ministry of Defense previously reported that the troops were abducted in Cauca province during operations targeting illegal armed groups controlling coca crops, a key component in cocaine production and trafficking.
The kidnappers, identified as farmers and indigenous people, were coerced by a dissident faction of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
Officials warn that this faction threatens the safety of communities in the Cañón del Micay and the Cauca department, where they forcibly recruit minors.
