Beijing advises the U.S. to engage with China before imposing new tariffs related to the fentanyl issue.
China responded with a 15% tariff and criticized the U.S. for using fentanyl as a pretext for new tariffs. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated, "The U.S. has insisted on using the fentanyl issue as an excuse to once again impose tariffs on Chinese products exported to the United States. China has repeatedly stated its opposition and taken legitimate and necessary countermeasures. If the U.S. really wants to resolve the fentanyl issue, it should consult with China on the basis of equality, respect, and mutual benefit to resolve their respective concerns."
As the U.S. and its trading partners face off over tariffs related to fentanyl and other trade concerns, the global economy braces for further repercussions.
