NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is warning that major economies like Brazil, China, and India could face serious consequences if they continue trading with Russia, as the U.S. steps up pressure with fresh sanctions and weapons support for Ukraine.

His remarks came during meetings with U.S. lawmakers, a day after President Donald Trump announced 100% tariffs on Russian export buyers unless a peace deal is reached within 50 days.

"My encouragement to these three countries, particularly is, if you live now in Beijing, or in Delhi, or you are the president of Brazil, you might want to take a look into this, because this might hit you very hard," Rutte told reporters.

Rutte also noted that Europe is committed to financing weapons for Ukraine, while the U.S. will lead in providing military support—including air defense, missiles, and ammunition.

He added that both defensive and offensive weapons are on the table, though specific systems are still being reviewed by military officials.
