French police confirmed that three projectiles were thrown at the perimeter wall of Russia's consulate in the southern city of Marseille on Monday, which was announced by Moscow as "terrorist attack". No injuries have been reported.
"The blasts at the Russian consulate general in Marseille exhibit all the signs of a terrorist attack. We demand that the host country take immediate, thorough action to investigate the incident, as well as measures to improve the security of Russia’s foreign facilities," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS.
BFM said that two devices were thrown at the facade of the building in the early morning, causing explosions and material damage. Other outlets reported Molotov cocktails were likely used in the incident.
Moscow said that the incident is linked to "Kyiv authorities" referring to Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) that allegedly warned about the possibility of terrorist attacks on Russian diplomatic facilities in Europe.
