Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol appeared at the Constitutional Court on Thursday for the sixth hearing in his impeachment case. The court will decide whether to permanently remove him from office or reinstate him.
Yoon was impeached by parliament on December 14 after his declaration of martial law triggered a constitutional crisis and led to the impeachment of the prime minister. He is also facing criminal charges of insurrection and has been detained since last month.
During the previous hearing on February 4, Yoon dismissed discussions about his alleged orders to remove lawmakers, arguing that "nothing actually happened."
Three witnesses are expected to testify in Thursday’s session. The court’s ruling will determine whether Yoon is permanently removed, which would require a new presidential election within 60 days.
