The Central Asia-Center pipeline network has historically transported natural gas from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Russia.
The system reportedly stretches approximately 5,000 kilometres, making it a major gas transport route between Central Asia and Russia.
The pipeline incident comes amid separate reports of fires and drone attacks targeting energy infrastructure in Russia, although no connection between the incidents has been established.
An oil loading terminal in Russia’s Rostov region reportedly caught fire following a drone attack overnight on 10 October. Several explosions were reported before a large blaze broke out, with the Novoshakhtinsky Oil Products Plant’s loading terminal identified as a possible target.
Separately, an oil terminal in Rostov-on-Don was reported to have been burning for three days following a drone strike.
Moscow and the surrounding region also reportedly faced drone attacks, with a reported strike on the Gazpromneft-MNPZ refinery in the capital’s Kapotnya district triggering a fire.
