British Prime Minister Keir Starmer attended an informal EU summit in Brussels, aiming to rebuild UK-EU relations years after Brexit. The meeting also focused on European defence strategies and trade concerns, following U.S. tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined European Union leaders in Brussels on Monday for an informal summit, marking an effort to improve UK-EU ties and coordinate on security and trade challenges.

Starmer was welcomed by European Council President Antonio Costa at Egmont Palace, where EU heads of state gathered to discuss economic and defence issues.

The meeting addressed Europe’s response to Russia, as well as concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China.

While no formal agreements were expected, Starmer’s presence signaled a renewed diplomatic approach between the UK and the EU. His government has indicated a willingness to engage in closer cooperation on trade, security, and defence.

The summit comes as EU leaders push for stronger economic and military coordination, highlighting the challenges ahead for both Brussels and London in navigating post-Brexit relations
