The military chiefs of Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan met in Riyadh to discuss closer defence cooperation under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
The meeting brought together Türkiye’s Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Saudi Arabia’s Chief of General Staff General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.
According to Pakistan’s military, the chiefs discussed strengthening intelligence sharing, military coordination and the integration of defence capabilities. They also reviewed the security situation and threats facing Saudi Arabia.
The three military chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to collective defence and discussed ways to turn the commitments under the Makkah agreement into practical cooperation.
The meeting came after the foreign ministers of the three countries met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where they discussed preparations for an urgent chiefs of staff meeting and ways to support Saudi Arabia under the defence agreement.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in August. It commits the three countries to strengthening collective security and defence cooperation.
The agreement has since moved towards establishing formal mechanisms for cooperation, including a secretariat in Riyadh.
The meeting comes amid heightened security concerns in the region and increased Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.
Türkiye has previously said it is ready to support Saudi Arabia with military technical needs under the agreement, while Pakistan has also reaffirmed its commitment to the pact.
The three countries have also stressed the importance of regional stability and the security of maritime routes amid the wider regional tensions.
