A group of 43 migrants returned to Italy on Saturday evening (February 1) after a Rome court ordered their transfer, dealing another setback to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s migration policy.
The migrants, originally from Egypt and Bangladesh, had been detained in camps in Albania after being rescued in the Mediterranean earlier this week. This marks the third time Italian courts have ordered the transfer of migrants back to Italy since the first group was sent to Albania in October 2024.
