South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's legal team has formally requested the recusal of three justices from the Constitutional Court's impeachment case against him, local media reported on Saturday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon’s legal representatives submitted the request on Friday, urging the removal of three justices, including acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae, due to concerns over possible political bias.
The Constitutional Court is currently reviewing Yoon’s impeachment, which was approved by parliament on December 14 following his brief declaration of martial law on December 3.
If the court upholds the impeachment, Yoon will be permanently removed from office, prompting a new presidential election within two months. Conversely, if the motion is dismissed, the 63-year-old president will be reinstated.
