A 22-year-old woman has been killed and five other people injured, some seriously, after shots were fired at a rave in Aarau, northern Switzerland, police said on Sunday.
All six victims are Swiss residents in their 20s, according to Aargau cantonal police. A manhunt is under way, with a major police operation in progress and large parts of the town cordoned off.
The shooting reportedly took place at around 2.30am at a covered horse-racing track in the Schachen area, where a techno rave was being held.
The event organisers had advertised the party as expecting around 3,500 people.
A witness told Swiss newspaper Blick that several shots were fired and that he unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate a woman who had suffered a gunshot wound.
Police said the 22-year-old woman died at the scene from her injuries. The five other victims were taken for medical treatment.
An army helicopter was deployed to monitor the area from above, Swiss broadcaster RTS reported. Police have also increased their presence beyond Aarau, around 50km west of Zurich, as a precaution.
Authorities have appealed to the public for photographs or video that could help the investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and a possible motive remain unclear.
