British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the United States to the UK after authorities said he violated U.S. immigration law by overstaying his permitted stay.
The 41-year-old was deported on Friday, a day after he was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, the Department of Homeland Security said.
A DHS spokesperson said Yiannopoulos had entered the United States legally in May 2019 but “chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws”.
According to DHS, Yiannopoulos failed to appear for an immigration hearing and was issued a final removal order on 22 July.
He could not immediately be reached for comment.
Yiannopoulos has himself repeatedly advocated for stricter U.S. immigration enforcement, including measures going beyond those pursued by President Donald Trump’s administration.
In a June 2025 post on X, he called for the deportation of “millions and millions and millions of people”, adding: “Without that, nothing else matters.”
He has also previously advocated for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) checkpoints at supermarket entrances.
Yiannopoulos rose to prominence during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, becoming a vocal supporter of the Republican candidate while attracting controversy over his anti-Islam and anti-immigration rhetoric.
Celebrity news outlet TMZ, which first reported his arrest, said Yiannopoulos had been in New Orleans ahead of a scheduled performance by rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, with whom he has had close ties.
Yiannopoulos, who was born in Britain, has worked with Ye in recent years, including in connection with the rapper’s business and political activities.
