OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Gov, a secure, government-tailored version of its AI chatbot designed to enhance efficiency and service delivery across U.S. federal, state, and local agencies.
The platform, hosted within Microsoft Azure’s commercial and government cloud environments, offers features such as secure conversation storage, AI-assisted workflows, and access to GPT-4o for advanced text interpretation, coding, and image analysis. OpenAI is also working toward FedRAMP accreditation to strengthen security compliance.
Since January 2024, over 90,000 government users across 3,500 agencies have engaged with OpenAI’s tools, leveraging AI for administrative support, research, and multilingual services. Early adopters include the Air Force Research Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and state agencies in Minnesota and Pennsylvania.
By launching ChatGPT Gov, OpenAI aims to support public-sector innovation while ensuring data security and compliance with stringent government standards.
