Trump says Iran talks underway, calls negotiations Tehran's 'last chance'

U.S. President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are continuing despite Tehran's public denials, describing the current diplomatic effort as a final opportunity for Iran to reach an agreement.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said talks were taking place "right now" and claimed the discussions were being held at the request of Iran, as well as regional countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

"This is a last chance for them to sign a good document," Trump said, referring to Iran.

The president also said the conflict with Iran was "working out very well" and reiterated that diplomatic contacts remain active. His comments came hours after he criticised Iran's leadership for what he described as sending mixed messages about whether talks with Washington are taking place.

Trump accuses Iran of mixed messages, reiterates nuclear warning

U.S. President Donald Trump accused Iran of sending contradictory signals over negotiations, saying Tehran has privately sought talks while publicly denying that discussions with Washington are taking place.

In a post on social media, Trump said contacts between the two sides were continuing and insisted the United States remains in control of maritime access to Iran through its blockade operations.

He also repeated Washington's position that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, saying the U.S. would continue pursuing either a negotiated agreement or what he described as Iran's "total surrender."

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, regional security and efforts to revive diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that as long as Washington continued its naval blockade of Iran’s southern ports, there would be no change to the deadlock over reopening the waterway.

Baghaei added that he welcomes China's mediation efforts, but said Pakistan remained the main channel for talks between Tehran and Washington.
