Controversial influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested in the United States on Saturday after British prosecutors filed fresh rape, trafficking and sexual assault charges against the brothers and requested their extradition to the UK.
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the brothers had been taken into custody as part of extradition proceedings, while the UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it would seek their return to Britain to face additional allegations.
The brothers, who hold dual British and U.S. citizenship, have denied any wrongdoing.
The CPS said Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven further counts of rape, as well as additional charges including arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, offences relating to indecent images of a child, and other offences.
Tristan Tate, 38, has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The new allegations relate to offences said to have taken place between July 2010 and August 2017 and increase the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven.
"These charging decisions followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police and bring the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven," Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said in a statement.
The brothers were arrested in Miami, according to multiple media reports. A U.S. Department of Justice spokesperson said the arrests were made pursuant to extradition proceedings.
Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, rejected the allegations, saying "the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent" and describing the new UK charges as a "political hit". He said the case was intended to counter a defamation lawsuit the brothers had filed in the United States.
The arrests mark the latest development in the brothers' mounting legal troubles. They have been under criminal investigation in Romania since December 2022, where they face separate allegations that they also deny.
In May 2025, British prosecutors confirmed Andrew and Tristan Tate would eventually face 21 charges in the UK over separate alleged offences said to have taken place between 2012 and 2016. In 2024, Bedfordshire Police secured European arrest warrants seeking their return from Romania.
Andrew Tate is also due to face trial in Britain in a civil lawsuit brought by four women who accuse him of physical and sexual abuse between 2013 and 2015. The claimants, who have been granted anonymity, allege Tate subjected them to physical or sexual violence. Andrew Tate denies the allegations, with his lawyers maintaining that all sexual activity was consensual and the claims are false.
The brothers have amassed millions of followers online through content focused on masculinity and wealth, while Andrew Tate has repeatedly drawn controversy for statements widely criticised as misogynistic.
