U.S. and Iran exchange attacks as oil prices climb

The United States and Iran have exchanged a new wave of military strikes. Washington said it targeted Iranian coastal defence and missile sites, while Tehran responded with attacks on U.S. military facilities in neighbouring countries. The renewed fighting continues to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Chief engineer killed near Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

The chief engineer at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been killed in what Russia says was a Ukrainian drone strike near the facility. Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom blamed Kyiv for the attack, while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) condemned the incident as an unacceptable attack that threatens nuclear safety, without assigning responsibility. Ukraine had not commented on the claims.

Hundreds feared dead after Myanmar refugee boats capsize

More than 500 people are missing and feared dead after two boats carrying mostly Rohingya refugees are believed to have capsized off the coast of Myanmar, according to the United Nations. The vessels were reportedly carrying people fleeing conflict and hardship, with many hoping to reach safety in South East Asia. The incidents have not yet been officially confirmed.
