A fire at a hotel in Türkiye's Kartalkaya Ski Resort, located in Bolu province, claimed 66 lives and left 51 others injured early Tuesday, according to local authorities.
The blaze began around 4:00 a.m. (GMT+3) on the fourth floor of the 11-story hotel, as reported by the Bolu Governor’s Office. Emergency services, including 30 fire trucks and 28 ambulances, were dispatched to the scene. In total, 85 vehicles and 231 personnel were involved in the rescue and firefighting operations, with reinforcements continuing to arrive.
"Preliminary findings indicate six fatalities and 31 injuries. Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing, and the injured are being treated at hospitals in the province," the governor's office initially reported, before confirming the death toll had risen to 66.
Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydın stated that the fire originated on the restaurant floor, though the exact cause remains unknown. At the time of the incident, the hotel was hosting 234 guests. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Kartalkaya Ski Resort, situated at the summit of the Köroğlu Mountains, is a renowned winter destination approximately 38 kilometers from Bolu and 270 kilometers from Istanbul.
