U.S. and Russian representatives held talks in Florida on Saturday as part of Washington’s efforts to mediate a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine, according to US special envoy Steve Witkoff.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Witkoff said Russian Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev took part in what he described as “productive and constructive” discussions focused on conflict resolution.

Witkoff said he was part of the U.S. delegation, which also included Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Jared Kushner, and White House senior adviser Josh Gruenbaum.

“We are encouraged by this meeting that Russia is working toward securing peace in Ukraine,” Witkoff said.

He also expressed appreciation for the leadership of President Donald Trump, crediting the administration with pursuing what he described as a durable and lasting peace.

The Florida talks form part of ongoing diplomatic efforts by Washington to engage both sides in the conflict as fighting in Ukraine continues.
