U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States intends to bid to host the World Expo 2035, backing Miami, Florida, as the proposed host city and promising major economic benefits if the bid is successful.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described the bid as a potential milestone in what he called a new “Golden Age of America,” saying the Expo would generate thousands of jobs and add billions of dollars in economic growth to the U.S. economy.
“The Great State of Florida has expressed strong interest in hosting the Expo in Miami, which I fully support,” Trump wrote.
“Miami Expo 2035 can be the next big milestone in our new Golden Age of America,” he said.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a Miami native, would chair efforts to coordinate and advance the bid, positioning the project as a high-profile national initiative.
The president pointed to major international events awarded to the United States during his time in office, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, as evidence of Washington’s ability to secure and host large-scale global gatherings.
Trump also cited other international meetings scheduled to take place in the United States during his presidency, including America250 celebrations, the G20 summit in Doral, and the G7, describing them as further proof of the country’s growing role as a host for global events.
“I look forward to winning and participating in the Miami Expo 2035,” Trump wrote.
Miami in the Spotlight
Miami has long positioned itself as a gateway between the Americas and a hub for tourism, trade and international business. Supporters of the bid say hosting the World Expo would boost infrastructure investment, tourism and long-term economic development in south Florida.
No further details were immediately released on the scope of the proposed Expo site, funding arrangements or competition from other potential host countries.
World Expos are large-scale international exhibitions held every five years, bringing together countries, companies and organisations to showcase innovations, culture and future-focused ideas. The next World Expo is scheduled to take place in Osaka, Japan, in 2025.
The U.S. last hosted a World Expo in New Orleans in 1984, followed by a specialised Expo in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1982.
