Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has accepted an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to become a founding member of the U.S.-led Board of Peace, while France has declined to take part, citing concerns over the body’s mandate.

Morocco’s foreign ministry said the king welcomed both the second phase of Trump’s comprehensive peace plan and the formal creation of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which is intended to act as a temporary transitional authority.

By contrast, French President Emmanuel Macron rejected the invitation, his office said, according to Politico. Paris has raised concerns that the board could undermine the role of the United Nations, the outlet reported.

An aide to Polish President Karol Nawrocki confirmed that Poland was also invited to join the Board of Peace. Presidential adviser Marcin Przydacz said the invitation reflected recognition of Poland’s international standing.

However, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed reservations, saying participation would require parliamentary approval and warning against involvement in a body that includes Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Board of Peace is part of Washington’s efforts to oversee Gaza’s transition following the latest phase of the conflict.
