1. Putin-Trump summit on hold after Russia rejects ceasefire
The planned summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has been postponed indefinitely after Moscow rejected an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.
A senior White House official confirmed there are no immediate plans for a meeting.
Preparatory talks between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, scheduled in Budapest, were also postponed.
2. Russia launches missile and drone strikes across Ukraine
Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine killed six people, including two children, and caused widespread power outages, officials said on Wednesday.
Fires broke out across half of Kyiv’s districts, with debris from downed weapons scattered in the city.
The attacks targeted energy infrastructure, damaging oil and gas facilities in Poltava and causing outages in Kyiv and surrounding regions.
In Zaporizhzhia, 13 people were wounded in ongoing shelling and strikes.
3. Peru declares 30-day state of emergency in Lima
Peru’s President Jose Jeri has declared a 30-day state of emergency in the capital Lima and the nearby province of Callao to combat rising crime.
The measure, approved by the Council of Ministers and starting just after midnight, allows the deployment of the armed forces alongside police to maintain public order.
The announcement comes after recent protests left one person dead and more than 100 injured.
4. President Ilham Aliyev concluded state visit to Kazakhstan
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev concluded his state visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan on 21 October.
A guard of honor was lined up for the Azerbaijani President at Astana International Airport.

5. North Korea fires short-range ballistic missiles toward East Sea
North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea, marking its first missile launch since President Lee Jae Myung assumed office in June, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing South Korea’s military.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the missiles were launched from Junghwa in North Hwanghae Province, traveling northeastward toward the East Sea.
