The inauguration was attended by parliament members, Constitutional Court officials, and foreign diplomats. Manole Domnica, the Constitutional Court President, declared Sandu the Republic of Moldova's president after announcing the official results of last month's presidential election.
Moldovan law stipulates that a person may not hold the presidency for more than two consecutive terms.
