Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday welcomed the European Union’s plan for its 19th sanctions package targeting Russia, calling it an “important step” to increase pressure on Moscow.

In a statement on Telegram, Zelenskyy said the measures focus on “key engines of the war economy: energy revenues, finance, high-tech inputs, and the military-industrial base.” He praised the EU’s plans to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s defence and recovery.

“We thank the EU for its leadership and unity. We count on swift adoption of the 19th package and expect other partners to mirror and expand these steps,” Zelenskyy added, stressing that sustained pressure is crucial to force Russia towards peace and accountability.
