Vigil held in Zagreb as community grieves the tragic loss of a seven-year-old child in primary school attack.
Residents of Zagreb, Croatia, gathered for a solemn vigil on Friday evening (December 20) to honor the life of a seven-year-old child killed in a stabbing attack at a primary school. The incident, which also left four others injured, has shaken the community and raised concerns about school safety.
Mourners lit lanterns and placed soft toys at a makeshift memorial near the school. "It could have been any child of ours. We must fight for the safety of children in schools and kindergartens," said the uncle of a student attending the school.
The attacker, identified as a 19-year-old former student, entered the school in the morning and stabbed five people, including teachers and children. The suspect later injured himself and was detained by authorities.
Croatian officials, including Health Minister Irena Hrstic and Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic, expressed condolences to the victims and their families while emphasizing the need to review safety measures in schools to prevent such tragedies in the future.
