Israel’s Defence Ministry announced late Tuesday that it had successfully launched the “Ofek-19” satellite into orbit at 10:30 p.m. using a “Shavit” launcher from the Palmachim airbase, in cooperation with the IDF and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

The “Ofek-19” is a synthetic aperture radar observation satellite, equipped with advanced technology to deliver high-resolution imaging for intelligence and surveillance. Following its entry into orbit, the satellite will undergo a series of tests before becoming fully operational.

The project was developed by IAI, with input from its Systems, Missiles, and Space Group, the ELTA Group, and the MLM Division. Rocket engines were produced in partnership with Tomer Ltd. and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The launch forms part of a broader programme led by the Defence Ministry’s Directorate of Defence Research and Development, in collaboration with the IDF’s Intelligence Directorate Unit 9900 and the Israeli Air Force.

“Ofek-19” succeeds “Ofek-13,” launched in March 2023, marking the continuation of Israel’s strategy to sustain advanced space-based observation capabilities.
