North Korea’s Kim Yo Jong, a senior official in the ruling Workers’ Party, said on Thursday that South Korea’s belief in Pyongyang’s response to peace overtures is a “pipedream.”

Kim Yo Jong also stated that North Korea has no intention of dismantling propaganda loudspeakers or altering its stance on annual joint military drills with the U.S., calling such changes 'futile' in shifting the allies’ perceived hostility.

Officials and analysts say Kim Yo Jong speaks on behalf of her brother, leader Kim Jong Un. Her remarks come after recent attempts by South Korea’s new liberal government to ease cross-border tensions, including President Lee Jae Myung’s engagement policies.

"I am confident that Seoul's policy towards the  Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) remains unchanged and can never change," Kim was quoted as saying by KCNA official news agency.

Despite cautious optimism in the South, North Korea reiterated it will not enter dialogue with the U.S., dismissing reports of potential talks as 'false suppositions.'
