Russia’s investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev said on Saturday that certain countries would make “titanic efforts” to derail the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled for 15 August.

Trump announced on Friday that Russia and Ukraine were close to a ceasefire agreement to end the three-and-a-half-year conflict, though details have not been disclosed. Reports suggest the deal could involve Ukraine ceding significant territory- an outcome opposed by many European states. Dmitriev accused unnamed nations of wanting to prolong the fighting, saying these efforts would take the form of “provocations and disinformation”.

He did not identify the countries or elaborate on the potential provocations. The Kremlin confirmed the summit, with Putin aide Yuri Ushakov stating that the talks would focus on achieving a long-term peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis, calling it a “challenging process” that Russia was ready to pursue “actively and energetically.”
