A devastating mudslide and flash floods have swept through a village in India's Uttarakhand state, killing at least four people and leaving dozens missing, prompting a large-scale rescue effort by the Indian Army.

At least four people have died and 50 others are missing after a massive mudslide and flash floods hit the village of Dharali in the northern Indian Himalayan state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, according to local broadcaster India Today.

The disaster, reportedly caused by a cloudburst, led to a “sudden flow of debris and water through the settlement,” the Indian Army said on social media platform X. Troops were immediately deployed to assess the situation and carry out rescue operations.

Television footage showed powerful floodwaters destroying homes and roads in the mountainous area. Authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to locate the missing individuals and provide relief to those affected.

Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand’s chief minister, said he is in constant communication with senior officials and assured that the situation is being closely monitored.
