Kazakhstan submits proposal to U.S. after new tariffs take effect

Kazakhstan has sent an official proposal to the United States seeking fairer trade terms after new U.S. tariffs on some Kazakh exports took effect, its Trade and Integration Ministry said.

The ministry said discussions are ongoing within the bilateral dialogue on trade and economic issues. An earlier meeting between officials from both countries was held in June.

Kazakhstan’s proposals focus on supply‑chain sustainability and fair access to markets, taking into account the 25 % tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on 2 April. The new measures affect phosphorus, ferrosilicon, lenses, wheat gluten and ammonium nitrate.

The ministry said the tariffs cover about 4.8 % of Kazakhstan’s exports to the U.S., leaving 95.2 % unaffected.

It added that both sides have confirmed readiness for further talks to find “mutually acceptable solutions.”

President Trump earlier shared on Truth Social a letter addressed to President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev, in which he announced the tariff decision.
