South Korean law enforcement is pushing to summon impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol for questioning regarding his controversial martial law decree, as the Constitutional Court began hearings to determine whether to remove him from office or reinstate him.
A joint investigative team is set to request Yoon’s appearance on Wednesday to examine whether his actions amounted to rebellion. Yoon, impeached by the opposition-controlled National Assembly on Saturday, has sparked protests in Seoul. His supporters defend his decree as a necessary action against anti-state forces.
Meanwhile, ruling party leader Han Dong-hoon resigned after supporting Yoon’s impeachment. The Constitutional Court has up to six months to decide Yoon’s fate.
